Brave New World ending

The ending of A Brave New World made me sort of think how a macrophage engulfs a foreign body, the members of society mob the "Savage" and assimilate him into their  culture, stripping John of his individuality and therefore, his spirit. How John reacts however, I find to be dramatic and uncalled for. I think Huxley wanted to portray him as a martyr, but to me it seemed he was just a frightened animal looking to repent for a mistake.
